Lich and surroundings

Lich, a charming small town in Hesse, is characterized by its numerous half-timbered houses, which take visitors back to a bygone era. In addition to this architectural feature, Lich is home to the pretty Lich Castle with a partly accessible castle park that invites you to take a relaxing stroll. The Arnsburg monastery ruins also bear witness to the rich history of the region and provide a fascinating backdrop for exploring. The Klosterwald animal park is a true paradise for animal and nature lovers.

Guided tours of the town (from 01.04.-31.10. every 1st Sunday of the month at 3 pm) and guided tours of the town tower allow guests to delve deeper into the history and traditions of the town. For beer lovers, a visit to the Jhring-Melchior private brewery in Lich is an absolute must, where you can gain an insight into the art of brewing and sample the local specialties.

Sports enthusiasts also get their money’s worth in Lich: an 18-hole golf course, a forest swimming pool, an indoor swimming pool and a citizens’ park with an adventurous playground featuring a water, sand and mud area, a ropeway, a giant swing and much more offer a wide range of opportunities for active leisure activities. The districts of Muschenheim, Birklar and Bettenhausen are part of the German Limes Cycle Route, which brings the history of the ancient border of the Roman Empire to life. In addition, the Hessian long-distance cycle route R6, which connects Diemelstadt with Lampertheim, runs directly through Lich and thus offers a perfect route for extended cycle tours through the picturesque landscape of Hesse.

Cultural highlights in Lich include the Lich Culture Days in March, the Historical Market with Old Town Festival, which takes place every year two weeks before Whitsun, and the“Art in Lich Barns” event, which attracts artists and art lovers from all over the region every year on the second weekend in September. The Traumstern cinema, known nationwide for its extraordinary program, complements the city’s cultural offerings.

Lich is easily accessible even without your own vehicle thanks to the local public transport connections with the RMV bus lines 372 and 375 as well as FB-52 and GI-62/64 of the VG Oberhessen. For drivers, the city offers excellent transport links thanks to the nearby highway connections to the A5 and A45 as well as the B457 and L3053 federal highways.
